SNAFU:Situation Normal All Fucked-Up” reflects the operational reality of arriving inside crisis zones where instability, confusion and unpredictability already exist before the mission even begins. Different country, same shit.
The painting captures the contrast between disorder and professional control. While the environment surrounding the figure appears unstable and volatile, the operator continues functioning through training, procedure and repetition. In these environments, professionalism is measured by the ability to remain operational while everything around you slowly fall apart.
The helicopter symbolizes movement between unstable environments where crisis becomes routine and abnormal situations eventually begin feeling operationally normal.
Created on canvas using acrylic paint applied with abseiling rope, my combat knife and dabbed with a tactical balaclava mask. I use real operational materials to leave something of myself behind in the canvas to give the painting a soul.
