Mental Delay
Mental Delay
“Mental Delay” reflects the closed mental circuit created by prolonged operational isolation. The confined space surrounding the figure symbolizes the psychological environment where an operator functions alone for extended periods without team support, external reassurance or emotional release.
The work does not represent weakness, trauma or collapse. It represents containment. Every confrontation, decision, movement and consequence remain trapped inside the same mind because responsibility cannot be transferred to anyone else. The silence inside operational environments often becomes louder than the environment itself.
The seated posture reflects voluntary confinement, remaining inside pressure, uncertainty and continuous awareness because the mission, responsibility and identity have already become interconnected. Over time, the outside world continues moving normally while the operator remains mentally locked inside a different rhythm built around threat assessment, consequence and control.
The box itself symbolizes both protection and imprisonment. It keeps outside pressure away while simultaneously preventing complete psychological escape from the environments already carried internally.
Created on canvas using acrylic paint applied with combat boot prints, a tactical watch and a block of copper melted from Kalashnikov rounds that landed beside me over the years. I use real operational materials to leave something of myself behind in the canvas to give the art a soul.
