The View From Here

"The View From Here" is an original acrylic painting, based on personal operational experiences in unstable and high-risk environments, where movement, timing, and survival are often only seconds apart. The descending figure symbolizes the space between departure and uncertainty: the moment when physical control is still present, while mentally something has already been left behind.

This painting explores isolation, pressure, and the gradual distance that arises between identity and memory after prolonged exposure to operational environments. The gold surrounding the figure does not symbolize victory, but the fragments that remain visible while everything else slowly merges into procedures, instinct, and survival.

Instead of depicting a literal event, this work captures the psychological weight that accompanies it: the feeling of descending into the unknown, with the realization that returning as the same person is no longer possible.

This work is made on canvas with acrylic paint applied using a combat knife, rope from an abseiling kit, and fabric from military clothing connected to the moment this image was conceived. These materials have physically become part of the painting process and directly convey texture, atmosphere, and lived experiences onto the canvas. I use real operational materials to leave something of myself in the canvas and give the artwork the soul it deserves.
