See-Level

"See-Level" symbolizes the overview and situational awareness an operator maintains amidst chaos, instability, and constant exposure to danger. The title is derived from "see" as in looking and "sea-level," representing continuous movement, unpredictability, and the realization that operational environments can simultaneously destroy and sustain.

This painting reflects the balance between pressure and control, between overwhelming impressions and the ability to continue functioning despite them. Like the sea, operational life incessantly gives and takes. It forces people to observe, analyze, and act, while mentally needing to remain above the chaos around them.

At the same time, the painting reflects the capacity for mental distance that arises after years in crisis environments, where survival often depends on maintaining calm while everything around you simultaneously moves in different directions. The ability to maintain an overview amidst confusion ultimately becomes more important than emotion itself.

This work was created on canvas with acrylic paint applied using a dive knife, a compass, several 9mm cartridges, and sand, with part of the paint dabbed with a map. I use real operational materials to leave something of myself in the canvas and give the artwork the soul it deserves.

Dimensions: 40 × 30 cm, canvas.
