“BLASTWALL” symbolizes both physical and mental protection within operational environments characterized by conflict, instability, and continuous threat analysis. The structure in the painting does not consist solely of concrete, steel, or defensive architecture. It symbolizes the layered construction of survival itself.

In conflict zones, protection is never formed by a single material. A blastwall begins with concrete and steel but continues with procedures, repetition, equipment, observation, communication, and experiences accumulated over years. Every safety procedure, every route control, every radio connection, and every piece of intelligence forms a new layer in that wall.

The geometric structure reflects the illusion of permanence that fortified environments often exude. Everything appears stable as long as systems continue to function. However, the operational reality is more like a high-level chess game, where each party constantly adapts, analyzes weaknesses, and searches for openings in timing, attention, and predictability.

A blastwall remains effective only as long as the understanding of the adversary continues to evolve with the threat itself. The moment intelligence falls behind, assumptions replace facts, or patterns become predictable, the wall in reality already begins to crumble, even before the first physical impact occurs.

The dark areas around the central structure symbolize the continuous pressure outside controlled zones: uncertainty, invisible movements, incomplete information, and the realization that no system remains impenetrable forever. In such environments, survival often depends less on strength than on the ability to anticipate.

Instead of depicting destruction itself, “BLASTWALL” captures the delicate balance between preparation and vulnerability: the invisible architecture that people build around themselves after functioning too long in environments where failure is never merely a theoretical possibility.

This work was created on canvas with acrylic paint applied with an axe, a Glock magazine, and sand and gravel collected in Juba, South Sudan. I use real operational materials to leave something of myself in the canvas and give the artwork the soul it deserves.
